Personal Update
I passed the exam, paid my fee, and now I can insert a jumble of letters after my name. For whatever reason, I felt a lot more confident about the level 2 exam. Though I was never 100% sure that I was going to pass, I was actually less excited when I got my level [...]

Quick Update
Where have I been? Things have been really, really busy. Not posting is kind of a self-sustaining loop. The less often I look at my own blog, the less inclined I am to post.
So here’s where I am: got my study materials for CAIA level 2 a few weeks ago. I’m somewhat [...]

Stanford Visit
Well it’s been a while since I had anything to write about my b-school dreams, so here you go. Last week I went to San Francisco and took a day trip down to Stanford to attend an info session for the GSB and take a tour of the campus.
I found the info session to be [...]

Thank You Notes
So, I’ve finally begun to compose thank-you notes to all the people who provided recommendations for my applications. I’m also writing notes to the people who gave me advice. Better late than never I suppose, and certainly some of those folks are probably wondering how I fared.
In hindsight, it’s truly encouraging to know [...]

Next year?
I am still trying to figure out whether or not to reapply next year. I know my shortcomings this time around probably had a lot to do with my low work experience and relatively thin post-college hobbies. I’m currently studying for some professional certifications and a foreign language, plus making music again, so on an [...]

All but over
Stanford will deliver decisions next week. I’ll be out of town, so maybe that will make easier to deal with getting rejected.
UVA sent me some supplemental materials, but as my rec’s aren’t even in, I don’t know if I should bother. I don’t really have the guts to call their admissions people and confirm whether [...]

B School Update
So my recommendations for Darden came in last night or thereabouts, 2 + weeks past the deadline. Same thing happened with NYU, and I’m guessing I will probably not receive any real consideration at those schools. With Stanford almost certainly a ding, that leaves just Columbia.
I’m resigned to not getting in this year, [...]

The folks posting on this forum seem oddly good-natured about our diminishing chances at getting interviewed or even waitlisted at Stanford. I don’t know if that has to do with age–many of the posters are in the typical 27-ish age bracket–or if my perspective is just skewed because I don’t handle rejection very well. [...]

School
I’ve got a plan. I haven’t written anything resembling a blog since high school, so what I’m going to do is start simple. Just churn out content. Tell enough of my story, lay out my ideas in no particular order, and eventually stop using the first person so much.
So. Business School. [...]

Apologia
Failure is a hard place to start. Right now, I am failing to get into business school. In my defense, this probably has a lot more to do with applying too early in my professional career than with some other, more personal shortcoming.
A biography in buzz words: ivy league, cynic, software, hedge funds, [...]
